USA

Brady 2001 - 2002

While attending graduate school at University of La Verne in Los Angeles, Brady accepted a job teaching at King Middle School in East Hollywood. Despite the school's giant size and its reputation for being a tough neighborhood, Brady found the challenge greatly rewarding. Although still a new teacher, his potential caught the eye of the magnet coordinator who recruited him to teach Honors Humanities (integrated language arts and social studies).

Honduras

Brady 1999 - 2000

Brady first entered the teaching world when he left his tech job in Southern California to take a last-minute opening in grade 6 at Academia Los Pinares, Tegucigalpa. While there Brady coached high school basketball and consulted the administration on technology and web design. He designed a custom application for managing job openings. (This web + MS Access database is still in use at www.pinares.org)

Having found great satisfaction in teaching, Brady desperately wanted to stay on for a second year in Honduras, but he decided that it would be better to return home to earn a proper teaching credential.

Germany

Brady & Jeanette 2004 - 2006

As fate would have it, after leaving China, Brady and Jeanette both independently accepted jobs in Germany, only an hour's train ride away. Jeanette at Frankfurt International School (Wiesbaden) and Brady at International School of Frankfurt. Not knowing anyone else, they traveled to see each other a few times -- a year later they were married!

Jeanette taught grade 4 and then grade 5 at the Wiesbaden campus of the Frankfurt International School. She spent her first year teaching grade 4 and learning all about the PYP program and how to implement its best practices to the classroom. During her second year, Jeanette taught grade 5 and prepared her students for the PYP exhibition, which is the culminating event for the PYP program. She also produced the school's yearbook and served as the school's writing coordinator.

Brady's first year at ISF was spent teaching English in grade 3 and 4 as well as a few ESL classes in the middle school. The second year, Brady took the opportunity to move back into secondary school where he taught grade 7 English and grade 10 IGCSE Geography. He also had the opportunity to develop and teach several computer electives. He published the yearbook and and designed the literary magazine. He assisted in the IB transition and was slated to teach upper-level English if he stayed an additional year. Brady was the girl's high school volleyball coach while at ISF.

Brady & Jeanette loved their time in Germany, but teaching at two different schools an hour away (and the dreary winters) caused some difficulties.

Romania

Brady & Jeanette 2006 - 2008

Although Brady had preferred to stay in high school, they decided they couldn't pass the opportunity to go to the American International School of Bucharest. For the first time, they were teaching at the same campus, Jeanette in grade 4 and Brady in grade 5. AISB was a demanding PYP environment, which challenged and rewarded. Their individual strengths were tapped by the elementary administration and both took several leadership roles. They were both chosen as team leaders and Jeanette helped implement the 6-traits writing program. Among other things, Brady developed a new reporting system and served as the math coordinator. Brady coached varsity girls' volleyball and varsity boys' basketball winning the CEESA championship two years in a row.

Egypt

Jeanette 1998 - 2000

Jeanette fell in love with Egypt while a vacation trip during the spring of 1999. At the time she was working in the media world in New York City. During her trip she took her resume to the US embassy where they saw she had some teaching experience, and they pointed her to right direction. She bought a suit, went to some interviews, and got job for the coming fall. Jeanette went home, shocked her family and friends with the news and packed her bags for Egypt. Being the amazing place that Egypt is, during her two year stay, Jeanette had a guest from home almost every two months. While at Futures American School in Cairo, Jeanette's favorite subject to teach was history and ancient civilizations. (Imagine studying about the seven wonders of the world at the foot of the pyramids of Giza!)

China

Jeanette 2001 - 2004
Brady 2002 - 2004

Jeanette and Brady met in Shanghai. Although they taught at different campuses within SCIS, they both taught grade 4 and thus got to know each other through various PD and social activities.

As a result of very diverse student body at the Shanghai Community International School, Jeanette worked hard at having her students learn about each other to improve their communication with one another. The realization of the importance of teaching people to be open-minded and accepting individuals, Jeanette began her MA in intercultural relations.

Brady published the weekly school newsletter as well as the school's quarterly report. During his second year, he worked part-time for the admissions department developing promotional materials and web sites. During his two years at SCIS, Brady published yearbooks for three campuses.
